IAPT London Regional Recruitment Closed

The IAPT London regional recruitment process closed on the 28th May.

There was an overwhelming response to the process.

Shortlisting is currently being undertaken and should be completed in the next week or two.

Some London PCTs are recruiting locally for IAPT trainees so if you missed out on the regional process please keep an eye on NHS jobs over the coming weeks for further positions.

NHS cuts threaten talking therapies for psychiatric patients

Half a million people with serious mental illness could lose access to counselling and other services as the NHS struggles to make unprecedented efficiency savings, campaigners warn.

Despite manifesto pledges from the three main political parties to increase access to “talking therapies” in the health service, Monitor, the independent regulator for NHS Foundation Trusts, has written to all the organisations that it oversees, asking them to plan for deeper cuts than previously forecast from next month.

Response to The Observer article ‘Flagship mental health scheme faces cutbacks’

This statement sets out the corrections to The Observer article  “Flagship mental health scheme faces cutbacks” (4 October 2009)

There were significant inaccuracies in the Observer article and it is important that all stakeholders understand the true position of the programme.

There is no evidence that funding for IAPT will be cut and the funding will instead be mainstreamed so that these funds are transferred in the normal way in which resources are allocated within the NHS.

Phil Hope urged to act on homelessness and mental health

Crisis and St Mungo’s have called on care services minister Phil Hope to remove barriers to mental health services for homeless people given the high levels of mental illness in the client group.

More cash call for veterans’ care

The head of a veterans’ charity has called for more investment in mental health services for former servicemen – claiming planned NHS investment was “a spit in the ocean”.

 

Commodore Toby Elliott, the outgoing chief executive of the charity Combat Stress, also said the health service often failed to understand the specific needs of ex-military patients.
